So after being home for 304 days, my kids were so excited to get back into school on Monday.
I have a Grade 8, 6 and 3 so online learning is definitely manageable but they miss their friends.
My Grade 8 and 6 are both boys and don't keep in touch with friends the same way as my daughter does. For boys, its all done through games via the PS4 or Roblox.
I have to be honest though, I'm relieved they have a few more weeks where we can keep them locked up and safe.
Let me be clear, having them at home everyday virtual learning is a nightmare. Some days are worse than others. Some days are better than others. But every day the disruptions are frustrating.
But Covid 19 and everything associated with that is way more frustrating. I didn't want to play Russian roulette with my kids health and that's what I felt I was doing ... if I was being totally honest.
Nobody knows the long terms affects this disease has. On the young and the old.
My wife and are are in a lucky position. We are both able to work from home. For that, I am incredibly grateful. I don't know what we would do if we were not in this position.
So all that's left to say is a big thank you to all teachers. You work so hard every day to teach, entertain and keep our kids safe and sane in a situation that nobody wants to be in.
